About us

icarusOccupation Choice and Change has been established by a retired Occupational Therapist and Vocational Guidance Specialist with over 20 years of professional experience.

Based in Gloucestershire we have particular expertise in working with people recovering from health conditions such as anxiety and depression.

Core services provided include:

  • Vocational guidance and exploration including personality and skills profiling, planning, transition and resilience - with an emphasis on the relationship between work and well being
  • Team development - relationships and communication workshops
  •  Assessment and reports

Tools used

Tools used to explore personality can include questionnaires - such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®), the Type Dynamics Indicator (TDI®) and the NEO PI-R®.

Tools for exploring team roles and relationships can include Fundamental Interpersonal Relationships Orientation (FIRO®) and Type Mapping instruments such as the Management Team Roles Indicator (MTRI) and the Ideal Team Profile Questionnaire (ITPQ).

360° feedback can be included and tools such as the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI®) can also be useful.

Provision is not dependant on using psychometric tools; and we are selective about what tools we use and when we use them – but they are useful in providing a framework for sessions - an accelerated and effective route into exploring individual and team issues.

Sample reports for many of these instruments can be seen on our resources page

We can also offer:

  • Support with career planning - e.g. a return to employment or education, and practical problem solving
  • Assessment of ability
  • Occupational specific assessment
  • Managing work/life balance – stress management for groups or individuals, relaxation techniques
  • Employee support/work retention/managing change
  • Access to other agencies and services; and identifying appropriate support – liasing and arranging meetings as appropriate
  • Disability awareness and advice on adjustments for employers and line managers

...however, because we focus on the individual needs of our clients, and are able to work with associates, there is no single menu for all that we are able to provide.

Our associates have experience across a range of sectors including health, education, careers services, local government, defense and the private sector.

FIRO® Elements

Developed by Will Schultz, FIRO® (Fundamental Interpersonal Relationships Orientation) theory, looks at the relationships between individuals within teams and organizations - the 'Human Element'

There are a range of tools that have been developed from the theory; these can be used to explore behaviour (Element B), feelings (Element F) and the self (Element S).

NEO PI-R®

The best known and most researched of the 'Big Five' personality questionnaires the NEO can be used to explore the 'five factors' and thirty different facets of personality. It can be used for team and individual development and can be used as part of the selection process

MBTI®

Widely used and researched the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® looks at compasspersonal style and preferences in a range of contexts.

It can be used in coaching, team development and career exploration.
